The Giant Kites Festival

The Giant Kite Festival is a traditional activity that takes place every November 1st, known as All Saints’ Day. People usually visit and decorate the tombs of their loved ones in the cemetery of the town, it is in this place where the giant kites festival takes place, filling the place with colors, tradition and art. The kites are done month before the festival. There are different themes used to decorate the kites, like love for Mother Earth, etc. You can see different sizes, with an average between 5 to 16 meters. On October 30th, 1998 this tradition was declared Cultural Heritage of Guatemala by Guatemala’s Ministry of Culture and Sports.
